A wine-making kit can provide you with all the equipment you need to begin your own special flavor. Wine-making is a fairly simple process that can easily be learned. A beginner kit contains all the needed accessories, including a fermenter bottle (usually 6 gallon), air hoses, stoppers, and locks, and a textbook with instructions and recipes.
Wine-making involves several steps, first of all, you need your grapes (or other fruit), make sure they are clean; the next step is the crushing, which may take some time; after the juice is separated from the skins the fermentation process begins, this is when the grape sugars become alcohol. Yeast is added during this process, its role is to eat up the sugar in the juice and convert it to alcohol, once the sugar is gone, the yeast dies. During the process it is important to have a suitable temperature; either too hot or too cold an environment will have negative effects. It is also very important to keep oxygen out during this process.
Wine making kits can be found in a variety of stores online, or you can put your own together fairly easily. Some wine making kits come with grapes included, although these should be checked as they are often not grapes grown specifically for wine production. Kits range from basic to more advanced, with prices varying accordingly.
If you wish to put your own kit together, here are some basic items you may need:
-Bucket
-Carboy
-Air Lock with Rubber Bung
-Empty Wine Bottles
-Peptic Enzyme
-Campden Tablets
-Wine Yeast
-Yeast Nutrient
-Sieve or Cheesecloth
-Siphon Hose
-J-Tube
-Hydrometer
